The mission field is primarily the University of Connecticut (UCONN). UCONN is located in Storrs, CT (college town) and is 45 minutes away from Hartford, CT. UCONN is currently the #1 public school in New England and the largest in the region. The University draws many students each year and is primed to be a great campus ministry. Those who choose to do their OYC with Storrs will have a great time, be trained to make disciples and lead their brothers and sisters. This site also involves working with the other colleges in Hartford (University of Hartford, Central Connecticut State University and Eastern Connecticut State University)
Volunteers will be trained in campus ministry by Matt Webber who believes that every disciple of Jesus should be able to make disciples and teach disciples to obey the teachings of Jesus (not just those in leadership should know how to do this) through intimate hands up discipling and training. Volunteers will also be included in meetings so that expectations and tasks are well communicated. The Hartford staff is also supportive of Storrs being an OYC and will also provide guidance for participants. The New England School of Missions may also be available to volunteers. In addition to the ministry building aspect of the OYC volunteers will also be spiritually and emotionally taken care of as family members should be. Volunteers will not be treated as robots but as friends.
