Springfield, Illinois

The Springfield Church of Christ is seeking disciples from any walk of life to move to the Capitol of

Illinois to make a spiritual impact on this community that will last into eternity! The congregation was

planted about 25 years ago, and can be described as a close-knit family of over 30 disciples, many

of whom have been disciples for decades.

The Church will be led by Joshua & Michelle Lutz, who have spent the last six years leading the

Campus Ministry of the nearby Champaign Church of Christ.

They look forward not only to helping the Springfield Church grow, but they are also excited about strengthening the bond between the

Springfield Church and neighboring congregations in Champaign and Bloomington, IL, as well as other Churches across our Midwest family of Churches. This is a great opportunity for incoming college students, young-professionals looking for a new

adventure, families with young children, and empty-nesters alike. The Springfield support team will

kick off in August, 2021.

While Springfield is not exactly a college town, there are college campuses including the University of Illinois Springfield campus, and Lincoln Land Community College. We hope to kickstart a campus ministry by getting a few young disciples to evangelize those campuses, set up Bible studies, and host Bible Talks on campus. We'll oversee these efforts, and will surely work alongside these volunteers as we're eager to study the Bible with as many people as we can!

Volunteers will participate in regular mission team meetings, which will be focused on training and equipping the disciples to reach their full potential and to live life to the full. We'll first need to assess the training needs of the team that the Lord presents to us, but we will then plan to go through a variety of proven programs that we've used over the years. We'll teach "Disciple maker" courses to help better equip the team to study the Bible with seekers and all mission team members will also be encouraged to enroll in the Midwest Institute of Ministry, which provides excellent training in a variety of topics from expert instructors from around the Midwest.

Beyond these more formal training programs, we will absolutely provide weekly discipling for these volunteers and will work tirelessly to connect these volunteers with the spiritually mature brothers and sisters who make up the Springfield Church. We look forward to building connections with the Champaign & Bloomington Churches which are both very close by. We'll plan to do events with these nearby congregations often, which we believe will provide an encouraging "big Church" feel, whenever we get together.

Michelle and I took part in an OYC in Burlington, Vermont from 2013-15, so we feel confident that we

can take things that we learned from that experience and apply them to this similar ministry situation.

Please consider joining us in Springfield, Illinois!
